My name is Geoff. I am 45 years old, a husband, father, and pastor. I am blessed to live in a small town in rural western Kentucky. And I absolutely love the adventure of metal detecting. My true passion within metal detecting is coinshooting … that’s why they call me “Kentucky Shooter.”
This blog is my digital diary of my searches and finds and the “central hub” of all things Kentucky Shooter. Let me know what you think …

Hi Geoff; Thanks for posting the videos on the White’s forum. I have enjoyed all of them. Especially when it is winter here in Colorado and we can’t hunt. I have only hunted Tot Lots here but find it very relaxing and enjoyable. I have lived in Colorado 30 years but am originally from South Carolina. I have stayed overnight in Cadiz many times over the years on my way home to S.C. Always thought that the gas prices were higher there. Hopfully one day I will detect in S.C. as I have many rural places to hunt. Maybe I can locate some finds like yours. Keep up the good posting and look forward to the next hunt. Thanks, Win.
Hey I’m trying to find a metal detector I live in Canton and I can’t find anywhere near here that sells them can you help me out
Google kellyco detectors. Best prices online. If you need help selecting a machine, just give me a shout. Where do you live in Canton?
Hi I am looking for a gentleman I met at the William Whitley House that lived in or near Lancaster Ky and was big into metal detecting and also photography. He also had a 67 Camaro he was going to restore and had restored other cars in the past. I can’t remember his name and was needing to ask him about some car engine block info.
Richard … sorry, man. It wasn’t me. Hope you find him!
Hey Geoff. I’ve been trying to round up some hunting buddies in my area and haven’t found any. I’m in Bowling Green. …just came across your site and was hoping you might know of anyone out my way.
Hey, Adam! I don’t know of anyone over your way. We are finally managing to put together a small club / group for our area. In addition to me, there is one more detectorist in Princeton and two from the Hopkinsville area. We get together on occasion. I wish I could be of more help for you. But you’re welcome to team up with us anytime! I’ll e-mail you my cell #. Feel free to give me a call.
hello my name is matt i live in calvert city and was wondering what places i am allowed to hunt. there is a house in calvert dating back to the early 1800s i would like to try but it is a historical site and what about the banks along the river here?
HI there, enjoy all the videos. I’m new to the hobby, and you being from Kentucky, should have a firm grasp on what the current state laws are pertaining to state parks, etc. Are these still off limits ? I’ve read that a new bill was passed to allow this, but cant find any new updates.
As far as I know, state parks remain off limits. Your best bet is to get onto private property. Try to work relationships. Every time I meet someone who lives in an older home or who owns farmland, I “work the angles” and try to get on their places.
Matt, I’m not sure about hunting along the river. In most places the Corps of Engineers can be problematic. Just look for those old houses and get permission!
Hello Geoff, I’m a old KY boy at heart, I haven’t lived there for over 30 years. My folks still live in BG and my wife is from Greenville, KY and she’s originally from Crofton, KY. About 30 years ago, I bought my first MD, a Garrett. Got to busy making a living in FL so I put it up. I’ve since moved to Birmingham and have some time so I purchased a White. I like it and enjoy it but I’m just starting over again. I know you are around Cadiz/Trigg, I was wondering if I ever get up your way if I might do some digging with you? You can have what I find I just need some brushing up on technique. By the way, I am a Born Again Christian and go to Shades MTN. Baptist Church here in town. If you get a chance, go to http://www.shades.org and watch our Sunday service at 9:45. We stream it. I will me sitting dead middle of the front row of the choir. (beard). I have some great old places in some of the old Alabama towns/farms to hunt so you’re welcome to come join if your ever headed to Destin and want to hunt on the way down. Thanks and God Bless………k
Kruse!
Absolutely! I haven’t been hunting a lot lately. I’ve just been too busy (church life, you know …) and the weather has been WET and COLD. But I’m hoping for a break soon. I have an old MXT that I love for field hunting. But my E-Trac is my favorite for coin shooting.
I’m always up for a road trip. I actually have roots in Alabama and need to head down that way for some genealogical research sometime. Maybe I could block off a few days, come down for a visit, and do a little of both of my hobbies. We could even shoot an episode for the Youtube show.

Geoff, sounds like a winner. I’ve got a old plantation down in mid-south AL I’ve been holding out on so we can work it over…….1200 acres! Keep me up to date on your schedule and we’ll make it work. Thanks. K
